The F-16 ‘Fighting Falcon’ is a high-performance multirole fighter. Both cheap to produce and maintain, the Falcon is an example of a highly generalized, highly agile light airframe capable of supporting a variety of weapons and equipment, with advanced fly-by-wire control systems and airframe redundancy. The aircraft's success has led to many subsequent upgrades and experimental designs to further increase its effectiveness in combat.;The YF-16 is the original prototype airframe, winning a competition known as the Lightweight Fighter Program. It’s simple and effective design would be reused for all mass-production F-16s.
